Azuki-no-sato
あずきの里
In Kameoka, Kyoto Prefecture, Azuki-no-sato showcases local Tamba Dainagon red beans through amanatto, rustic mochi, an array of daifuku, and made-to-order mitarashi dango enjoyed with tea at indoor tables.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Taking full advantage of local Tamba Dainagon red beans, the shop offers specialties such as amanatto, where the firm texture of whole sweetened beans takes center stage, along with rustic azuki mochi and fragrant azuki tea. The counter also features an extensive variety of daifuku, including bite-sized chestnut daifuku filled with smooth koshian, standard azuki daifuku, mame daifuku studded with whole beans, salted bean daifuku, seasonal strawberry daifuku, and green uguisu mochi.
Skewered mitarashi dango grilled fresh to order are another highlight worth sampling on a visit. For gifts to take home, there are individually wrapped mini-dorayaki stamped with the local turtle mascot Kamemaru, as well as cream-filled dorayaki, both well-regarded for their moist wrappers and restrained sweetness.
A seating area with tables allows visitors to relax and enjoy their chosen sweets alongside tea or other drinks. The adjoining workshop also organizes hands-on Japanese confectionery-making sessions, and payments can be made in cash or via mobile payment services such as PayPay and Rakuten Pay.
